Council Bluffs is the county seat of Pottawattamie County, on the Iowa bank of the Missouri, with a small portion of the city reaching into Mills County. It was incorporated on January 19, 1853. Until about then it was known as Kanesville. The 2020 census counted 62,799 residents. A maid visit here uses the same online starting prices as Omaha. What changes the visit is the house: a steep lot above Broadway, a pre-war house with extra trim, or a one-level house from the 1950s.

More than a quarter of the housing is pre-war

The Census Bureau's 2020–2024 American Community Survey (table B25034) estimates 27,616 housing units. Of those, 7,312 were built in 1939 or earlier, more than one in four. The largest postwar decade is the 1950s, with 3,982 units. Table B25024 estimates 19,162 units are single-family detached houses, and 1,001 are mobile homes. That split is why two Council Bluffs bookings can look nothing alike. A house from before 1940 usually has more stairs, more door casings, and smaller rooms than the bedroom count admits. A 1950s house is more often one level. A manufactured home is a compact kitchen and bath. Tell us which of the three you have. The rows themselves are on the Council Bluffs cost page.

Oakland Avenue and the Lincoln/Fairview hillside

The Lincoln/Fairview Historic District was listed on the National Register on April 10, 2007. The nomination describes a residential district on the south-facing hillside of a loess bluff above the early town. The north-south streets are North 1st Street, Elder Street, North 2nd Street, and Oakland Avenue. The cross streets include Lafayette, Sherman, Lawton Terrace, Fletcher, Colfax, Grant, and West Kanesville Boulevard. North 2nd and Elder are still very steep. Stone, brick, and concrete retaining walls hold the sidewalks, and many lots are irregular because the plat follows the slope. The Lincoln Monument, put up in 1911 by the Daughters of the American Revolution, stands on the blufftop edge of the district. Fairview Cemetery occupies the high ground. At the east end of Lafayette Avenue, the Ruth Anne Dodge Memorial, the Black Angel designed by Daniel Chester French, was listed on February 8, 1980.

A house on that hill is a stair job. Each flight, the landing, and the bath on every floor you live on belong in the notes. Interior windows, if you want them, are the $45 add-on. The hill does not add a surcharge on top of the bedroom and bath row.

Willow Avenue, Park and Glen, and the Craftsman ridge

The city's National Register inventory, revised in 2014 from Park Service records, lists the Wickham-De Vol House at 332 Willow Avenue, added May 4, 1995. The same list dates the Park/Glen Avenues Historic District to April 7, 2010, covering 101 through 508 Glen Avenue, 102 through 471 Park Avenue, 209 and 301 West Pierce, and 524 and 600 Huntington. Huntington Avenue itself is a ridge of early twentieth-century Craftsman houses along the top of the Loess Hills, past the 1925 KOIL studio building, which is now apartments. These streets are trim and stair houses. They use the same price rows as a ranch on the flat.

Broadway and the Haymarket

Council Bluffs' downtown commercial core is its own set of blocks. The 100 Block of West Broadway, taking in West Broadway, First Street, and Fourth Street, was listed on May 9, 2002. The Haymarket Commercial Historic District, on South Main Street, was listed on April 11, 1985. The seven-story Bennett Building at 405 West Broadway, from 1924, was listed August 8, 2001. The State Savings Bank Building at 509 West Broadway was listed June 4, 1984. In the West End, West Broadway was part of the Lincoln Highway. The Golden Spike Monument marks milepost 0 of the transcontinental railroad at 21st Street and 9th Avenue. It was dedicated in 1939 for the premiere of the film Union Pacific. A house or a flat on these blocks is a residential clean on this page. A short-term rental turnover near the casinos is a different service, written up on the Council Bluffs Airbnb page.

Fairmount Park, the monument, and the 1881 oxbow

Fairmount Park covers about 105 acres. The city gives the entrance as East Graham Avenue and Park Entrance. Trails run through the hills. There is a scenic overlook, a splash pad, and a 10-hole disc golf course at Lookout Point. The Pottawattamie County Historical Society writes that the steep ground had been platted into housing lots, as William's Second Addition and part of Green's Addition, and that the city took title in October 1879 after the lots went undeveloped. General Grenville Dodge donated adjacent land. The houses that did get built stayed on the streets beside the park, not on the slope itself.

Lewis and Clark Monument Park, at 19962 Monument Road, is about 35 acres. The city describes views from there toward Big Lake Park, Eppley Airfield, and the Omaha skyline. Lake Manawa State Park is at 1100 South Shore Drive. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources describes a 1,529-acre park around a 753-acre oxbow lake, cut off in a Missouri River flood in 1881. The Manawa neighborhood is the ground from the joined Interstate 80 and Interstate 29 south to the city limits, between Mosquito Creek and Indian Creek. Twin City, south of the point where Interstate 29 leaves Interstate 80, is mostly 1960s housing built for people who worked in Omaha factories and at Offutt. Those interstate corridors are how we reach the south and west sides of town. They do not add a line to the bill.

What a standard clean includes

  • On a hillside house: every stair run, the landing, and the bath on each floor that is lived in
  • On a 1950s one-level house: the kitchen, the baths, the bedrooms, and the living room, with attention to the door you named
  • On a pre-war house: sills, reachable door casings, and baseboards
  • In a manufactured home near the interstates: the kitchen and the bath inside that unit
  • Carpets vacuumed and hard floors mopped
  • Beds made when a clean set is left out
  • Trash from the kitchen and the baths

The booking app starts a one-bedroom, one-bath house at $99 and a two-bedroom, one-bath house at $119, up to $249 when the house has five or more bedrooms. Weekly service is 15 percent off the one-time column, every two weeks is 10 percent off, and monthly is 5 percent off. Apartments run $10 under the matching house. Condos run $5 under. Oven and refrigerator interiors are $35 each. Cabinet interiors and interior windows are $45 each. A garage sweep is $30 and a patio is $25, if you want those surfaces included.

A one-level 1950s house often fits a monthly or every-two-weeks visit. A multi-story house on Oakland, Elder, or North 2nd, with more stairs and more baths, is the one people usually put on a shorter cycle. The price comparison is on weekly versus every-two-weeks cleaning cost. How to choose a cadence in general is on how often to clean your house. A heavier first reset, when the house has gone a long time, is described on deep clean versus standard clean.

First visit and booking

On the first appointment, say whether the house climbs the bluff or sits on one level, which street it is on, and whether a lower floor is living space. You can be gone if a lockbox or a code is ready. Note pets. Supplies are brought in. The people who enter have passed a background check, and insurance is in place. Steps to take beforehand are on how to prepare for house cleaners. The stay-or-go question is on do I need to be home.

How much does house cleaning cost in Council Bluffs?

Online booking in Council Bluffs starts at $99 for 1 bed / 1 bath and $119 for 2 bed / 1 bath. Recurring service is 15% off weekly, 10% off every two weeks, and 5% off monthly. See Council Bluffs prices.

Do hillside houses on Oakland Avenue use a different rate than 1950s one-level houses?

Not by neighborhood. A house on Oakland, Elder, or North 2nd has more stairs, so say that the stairs and each floor are lived in. A 1950s one-level house usually matches a smaller bedroom and bath row. Both use the Council Bluffs cost page.

Do you clean near Fairmount Park, the Lewis and Clark monument, and Lake Manawa?

Yes. Fairmount Park at East Graham Avenue, Lewis and Clark Monument Park at 19962 Monument Road, and the neighborhoods by Lake Manawa State Park at 1100 South Shore Drive are on this route, along with the blocks between I-80 and I-29. The drive does not add a fee.
